Stanbic Black Pirates delivered a commanding performance at Kingspark Arena, overpowering Makerere Impis 31–9 in a Week 6 encounter of the 2026 Uganda Rugby Premiership.

The Pirates controlled the contest from the opening whistle, blending powerful forward dominance with an energetic backline to keep the Impis pinned deep in their own territory. Makerere Impis managed to register their points through penalty kicks but found it difficult to penetrate the Pirates’ disciplined defensive wall.

Allan Karuhanga was named Man of the Match after a superb all-round performance. The experienced fly-half orchestrated the Pirates’ attack with precision, controlling territory with tactical kicking and contributing crucial points to ensure the home side maintained their advantage throughout the game.

February Player of the Month Emong Eliphaz once again justified his recognition with an influential display. The dynamic playmaker was central to the Pirates’ attacking rhythm, guiding phases of play and ensuring sustained pressure on the visitors.

Stanbic Black Pirates captain Isaac Massa also stood out defensively, delivering several crucial tackles and leading from the front with a commanding performance. Other key contributions came from Haruna Muhammad, Allan Karuhanga, and several members of the Pirates’ forward pack who dominated the breakdown and set pieces.

Speaking after the victory, senior Pirates player Alema Ruhweza, also known as Diddy, said the team is determined to maintain its position at the summit of the league standings.

“We are happy to be leading the table at this stage of the season,” Ruhweza said. “But the competition is very tight, and we know every game matters. Our focus is to stay consistent, keep improving, and continue pushing as a team.”

The win keeps Stanbic Black Pirates at the top of the table after six rounds with 24 points from five wins and one loss. They are closely followed by Buffaloes on 23 points and Kobs on 22 points, highlighting the fiercely contested race at the top.

Stanbic Bank Uganda Marketing Manager for FlexiPay Jackie Abwol praised the Pirates for their strong performance and emphasized the importance of supporting local sport.

“We are proud to see the Pirates performing at such a high level,” Abwol said. “Through Stanbic FlexiPay, we remain committed to supporting Ugandan rugby and creating opportunities that help grow the sport and engage communities.”
