Kalikumutima & Co. Diaspora investment remains a critical pillar of Uganda’s economic growth, with remittances reaching approximately USD 1.5 billion (UGX 6.5 trillion) in the 2024/2025 financial year, reflecting both financial contribution and enduring confidence in Uganda’s future.
This partnership establishes a structured and reliable legal support framework through which Kalikumutima & Co. Advocates will serve as NAUCA’s designated legal advisory partner in Uganda. The firm will support Ugandans in Canada in investing, acquiring property, conducting business, and safeguarding family wealth in a secure, compliant, and transparent manner. The scope of support includes property protection, investment and joint venture structuring, business registration and compliance, estate planning and succession, banking and financing advisory, dispute prevention and risk management, as well as immigration-related guidance.
As part of this collaboration, Kalikumutima & Co. Advocates will participate as both sponsor and legal partner at the inaugural NAUCA Business & Cultural Convention scheduled for 9–11 October 2026 at the Pinnacle Harbourfront Hotel Downtown in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
“For far too long, our diaspora brothers and sisters have sought meaningful opportunities to invest back home; they simply lacked a trusted and structured pathway. We are proud to serve as that bridge under NAUCA. Every Ugandan abroad should be able to invest with confidence, certainty, and full transparency.” Counsel Deo Kalikumutima, Chief Executive Partner, Kalikumutima & Co. Advocates.
The Convention will convene investors, professionals, policymakers, educators, and members of the Ugandan diaspora to strengthen trade and investment linkages, promote cultural exchange, facilitate dialogue on governance and compliance, and showcase business opportunities in both Canada and Uganda.
“This partnership extends beyond legal advisory; it is fundamentally about stewardship. When the diaspora invests, they are not merely transferring capital; they are placing trust in systems, institutions, and people. Our responsibility is to protect that trust and ensure it is translated into sustainable, measurable impact for Uganda’s future.”— Counsel Deo Kalikumutima, Chief Executive Partner.
“For many Ugandans abroad, investing back home is deeply personal. However, this aspiration is often tempered by uncertainty, driven by unclear processes, limited safeguards, and concerns over potential loss. Through this partnership, we are providing legally enforceable protections, clear and structured guidance, and dependable support at every stage. Our goal is not only to facilitate investment, but to enable the creation and preservation of trans-generational wealth built on integrity, due diligence, and long-term value.”— Justus Mirembe, NAUCA President and Chair, Board of Directors
During the Convention and subsequent NAUCA engagements, the firm will conduct legal advisory clinics focusing on secure investment structuring, proper documentation, rigorous due diligence, and the protection of trans-generational wealth. The firm will also provide immigration advisory support, including guidance on documentation required to demonstrate ties for Canadian Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) applications, noting that all final determinations remain with the relevant Canadian immigration authorities.
