US AMBASSADOR IS GIVEN THE NAME “MUSINGUZI” DURING HIS VISIT TO U.S. EXCHANGE ALUMNI UGANDA (USEA) – MBARARA.

The United States Ambassador to Uganda, William W. Popp, visited and interacted with members of the U.S. Exchange Alumni (USEA) community in Mbarara. The meeting provided an opportunity for alumni from different U.S. government exchange programs to share their experiences, initiatives, and the impact they are creating in their communities.

During the engagement, Ambassador Popp commended the alumni for the work they are doing in areas such as leadership, entrepreneurship, education, and community development. He encouraged them to continue using the skills, networks, and knowledge they gained through the exchange programs to make a positive difference in their communities and across Uganda.

In his message, the Ambassador emphasized that exchange programs are meant to build strong people-to-people connections and long-lasting partnerships between Uganda and the United States. He also encouraged alumni to keep collaborating, supporting each other, and mentoring the next generation of leaders.

In a light and friendly moment during the interaction, the alumni gave Ambassador Popp a local Runyankole name — “Musinguzi,” which means one who brings peace or harmony. The name symbolized appreciation for his engagement with communities and the spirit of friendship and partnership between the United States and Uganda.

The visit strengthened the bond between the embassy and the U.S. Exchange Alumni community in Mbarara and reaffirmed the importance of alumni as agents of positive change in society.

USEA is a national network of over 6,000 alumni of U.S. government-funded exchange programs, driving innovation, leadership, and community transformation across the country. USEA brings together professionals who leverage skills and experiences gained in the United States to drive positive change across key sectors in Uganda, including leadership and governance, entrepreneurship, education, health, media, and civil society.
