Betika Uganda, SafeBoda, Radio Simba and Ntugasaze FC partnered on Saturday to clean Bukoto Market and surrounding public spaces in Kampala as part of Uganda’s National Cleaning Day, a government-led initiative encouraging collective responsibility for sanitation.

The exercise began at Kira Road Police Station at 7:00 a.m., with police officers joining representatives of the participating organisations as they proceeded towards Bukoto Market. The clean-up targeted public spaces used daily by traders, residents and commuters.

National Cleaning Day is observed on the last Saturday of every month under the theme “A Clean Uganda is Everybody’s Responsibility”. The initiative calls on businesses, institutions and communities to contribute to maintaining cleaner public spaces.

For Betika Uganda, a gaming operator licensed and regulated by the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB), the exercise formed part of its corporate citizenship efforts.

“Being a responsible brand goes beyond running a business. It means actively contributing to the communities we serve. We’re proud to join SafeBoda, Radio Simba and Ntugasaze FC in supporting this national initiative and making a practical difference at Bukoto Market,” said Desire Akanduhura, Marketing Lead at Betika Uganda.

Christian Wamambe, Country Director at SafeBoda, said maintaining clean streets and markets was a shared responsibility because these spaces serve riders, customers and surrounding communities.

“Kampala’s streets and markets are part of everyday life for our riders, customers and communities. Keeping these spaces clean is everyone’s responsibility, and we’re pleased to work alongside our partners to make a positive contribution,” Wamambe said.

The collaboration brought together organisations from the gaming, mobility, media and sports sectors. Radio Simba supported community awareness, while Ntugasaze FC extended its partnership with Betika beyond football.

The participating organisations urged traders, residents and businesses to maintain cleaner surroundings beyond the monthly exercise and make sanitation a daily responsibility.
