UTB Launches National Rollout of the Seven Wonders of Uganda

Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has officially launched the national rollout of the Seven Wonders of Uganda, a citizen-driven platform spearheaded by the Association of Tour and Travel Agents of East Africa in Uganda (ATEI Uganda), in partnership with Brand Ambassadors 256.

UTB Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Juliana Kagwa

The landmark initiative was flagged off by UTB Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Juliana Kagwa, underscoring the Board’s commitment to deepening domestic tourism and amplifying Uganda’s destination appeal both at home and internationally.

The launch marks a significant milestone in Uganda’s ongoing effort to harness the power of its own citizens as tourism ambassadors. By inviting the public to identify, celebrate, and vote for the country’s most iconic natural and cultural landmarks, the Seven Wonders of Uganda platform democratises destination storytelling in a way that traditional marketing campaigns cannot.

The initiative places communities at the centre of the narrative, reflecting a broader shift in how Uganda positions itself on the global tourism map.

Among the highlights of the launch was Ms. Kagwa’s flag-off of the newly introduced Kampala Hop On, Hop Off sightseeing buses, a first for the capital. Designed to showcase the Seven Wonders of Kampala alongside the city’s lesser-known gems, the buses offer both residents and visitors a fresh and immersive way to experience Uganda’s bustling capital.

The service bridges the gap between accessibility and adventure, making Kampala’s rich history, culture, and architecture discoverable on one’s own terms.

The Hop On, Hop Off concept, well-established in major tourism destinations across the world, is expected to transform how Kampalans and tourists alike engage with the city. From the historic Kasubi Tombs to the vibrant Owino Market and the scenic shores of Lake Victoria, the routes are curated to capture the full spectrum of Kampala’s identity.

For many residents, it promises an opportunity to rediscover a city they thought they already knew.

The rollout comes at an opportune time, as Uganda prepares to host the Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE) 2026 at Speke Resort Convention Centre, Munyonyo, in May.

The Seven Wonders platform is poised to serve as a compelling backdrop to the Expo’s wider agenda of promoting Uganda as a world-class destination. Together, these initiatives reflect UTB’s strategic vision: a Uganda where tourism is not only marketed from above, but lived and championed from within.
