As President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni took the oath for his seventh term at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, another brand quietly commanded attention throughout the ceremony: Explore Uganda, The Pearl of Africa.

From giant digital screens and banners to strategic venue branding, the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) transformed the inauguration into more than a political event. It became a major tourism and national branding showcase aimed at positioning Uganda before a global audience.

Explore Uganda branding visibly seen during the ceremony

With delegates, diplomats, and heads of state from more than 40 countries attending the ceremony, the event provided Uganda with a rare opportunity to market itself as both a tourism destination and an emerging regional hub for investment, culture, and business.

Ahead of the swearing in, UTB CEO Juliana Kagwa highlighted the significance of the moment.

Tomorrow, we will be showing destination Uganda to over 40 nations that will be in the country for the Presidential Inauguration ceremony.”

That strategy was visible across Kololo. The “Explore Uganda” campaign was integrated into the ceremony’s visual identity, ensuring international guests constantly interacted with Uganda’s tourism message throughout the event.

The campaign showcased Uganda’s key attractions, including gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, adventures along the River Nile, wildlife safaris, mountain tourism in the Rwenzori Mountains, and the country’s rich cultural heritage.

The strong visibility of “Explore Uganda” during such a high profile national event reflects the growing importance of tourism within Uganda’s broader economic vision.

Tourism remains one of Uganda’s key foreign exchange earners and a major source of employment, especially for young people. By attaching the tourism brand to a globally watched inauguration, Uganda positioned itself not only as a politically stable country, but also as an attractive destination for travel, conferences, hospitality, and investment.

“Explore Uganda” was not simply branding at Kololo. It was part of a broader message about Uganda’s ambition, visibility, and economic future.

President Museveni also reinforced the message during his address, encouraging international guests to experience the beauty and opportunities within the Pearl of Africa.

The momentum also comes at a strategic time for Uganda’s tourism sector as the country prepares for the upcoming Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo 2026 (POATE 2026), one of the country’s flagship tourism and travel showcases expected to attract international buyers, tour operators, investors, hospitality brands, and global media attention.

Industry players view moments like the presidential swearing in as powerful lead up opportunities to build international visibility ahead of major tourism events such as POATE 2026, where Uganda will once again position itself as a leading destination for leisure, adventure, culture, business tourism, and investment in East Africa.

For tourism stakeholders, the ceremony signals stronger alignment between national events and economic marketing strategies.

Industry players now expect increased international tourism campaigns, more public private partnerships in hospitality and tourism, expanded investment in tourism infrastructure, and greater positioning of Uganda as a regional destination for conferences, events, and leisure travel.

The inauguration also demonstrated how political and diplomatic events can double as powerful marketing platforms capable of attracting future visitors and investors.

The night before the swearing in, Kampala’s skyline lit up with a spectacular drone show celebrating Uganda’s progress and identity. The following day, the “Explore Uganda” campaign ensured that global attention extended beyond politics and toward the country’s tourism potential.

For UTB, the inauguration became more than a ceremonial event. It became a statement of ambition designed to convert visibility into tourism growth, investment opportunities, and long term economic value for the Pearl of Africa.
